When to visit Dzükou Valley

Dzükou changes completely with the seasons. Pick your month by what you want to see.

June and July: the lilies

The pink Dzükou lily flowers in early summer and grows nowhere else. It's also monsoon, so the trail is wet and slippery and views come and go with the clouds.

October and November: clear views

Cooler, drier and the clearest skies. The grass turns gold, and most trekkers say this is the safest time to walk.

December to February: cold and quiet

Frosty mornings and few people. Bring proper warm gear for nights in the valley.

The walk in

Most people start at Viswema, the gentler route. The trail from Zakhama is steeper. Allow three to six hours depending on your pace and the route, and arrive before dark. Nagaland requires an Inner Line Permit for Indian visitors.

Rules, fees and timetables change. We check these guides regularly, but confirm locally before you travel.
