How to reach Majuli

Majuli is an island in the Brahmaputra, and the classic way in is the ferry from Jorhat.

Get to Jorhat

Fly to Jorhat (Rowriah airport) or take a train or bus. From town, Nimati Ghat is about 14 km away, roughly 30 minutes by taxi or auto-rickshaw.

Take the ferry

Ferries cross from Nimati Ghat to Kamalabari Ghat on Majuli in about one to two hours. They usually run from early morning to mid-afternoon, so arrive well before the last boat. Bikes and small cars can come along.

Check before you go

Crossings pause in high water and thick fog, and timetables change. Confirm on the day with the ferry operator or the Majuli district administration.

If you travel with us

We book the crossing, meet you at the ghat and build in buffer time in case the river has other plans.

Rules, fees and timetables change. We check these guides regularly, but confirm locally before you travel.

Rather we handled it?

We sort permits, crossings and stays for every Eastloom traveller.
